Vehicle Lettering & Vehicle Logos Adelaide

Vehicle lettering is cut or printed vinyl graphics -- your business name, phone number and logo -- applied straight onto your vehicle's panels without covering the whole body like a full wrap. Gigantic Signs makes vehicle lettering in Kent Town, Adelaide, with instant online pricing, so you can price a job and order it in minutes rather than waiting on a quote.

We've been signwriting for Adelaide businesses for over 30 years, and vehicle lettering is one of the best-value jobs that comes through our Kent Town workshop. It turns any car, van or ute into a moving advertisement that works every time it's parked or driven, and it costs a fraction of a full wrap. If you want the whole picture, see our vehicle signage range -- but if you just need your name, number and logo on the doors, lettering is where most Adelaide tradies and small businesses start.
What is vehicle lettering (vs a wrap)?
Vehicle lettering is graphics applied to selected panels of a vehicle -- the doors, tailgate, bonnet or rear window -- leaving the factory paint visible around them. A full wrap, by contrast, covers the entire body in printed vinyl. Both are made from the same automotive-grade vinyl, but the amount of material and labour is completely different, and that is what drives the price.
The practical difference comes down to coverage, time and cost:
- Lettering covers a fraction of the vehicle -- usually your name, phone number, website and logo on a few panels. It reads clearly from across a car park and keeps the vehicle looking clean.
- A full wrap covers everything -- it changes the colour of the whole vehicle and takes our team one to three days of careful fitting per vehicle. That labour is why a wrap costs far more than lettering.
- Lettering is the cheaper option by a wide margin -- you pay for a handful of graphics, not a whole body of printed film plus days of installation. For most trade and small-business vehicles it does the same marketing job for much less.
Cut vinyl vs printed lettering
There are two ways to make vehicle lettering, and the right one depends on your logo. At Gigantic Signs we produce both in-house at Kent Town.
- Cut vinyl -- each letter and shape is cut from a solid sheet of coloured automotive vinyl, weeded by hand, and applied with no background. It gives crisp edges and clean single colours that sit flush on the paint. Adelaide buyers regularly ask for cut vinyl by name and are happy to pay a premium for it, because it looks like it was painted on rather than printed.
- Printed lettering -- your artwork is printed in full colour, then contour-cut to shape and laminated to protect it. This is the option when your logo has gradients, photos or more colours than cut vinyl can practically handle. The laminate is what keeps printed graphics from fading in the Adelaide sun.
A simple one or two-colour logo is usually cut vinyl. A detailed, multi-colour or photographic logo is usually printed. If you're not sure which yours needs, send us the artwork and we'll tell you -- and the same instant-price tool handles either way of making it.
What vehicles and surfaces work?
Vehicle lettering suits almost anything on wheels -- work vans, utes, trailers, cars, trucks and even boats and machinery. The graphics go on best over large, flat panels like van sides, ute doors and tailgates, which is exactly where most business signage belongs anyway.
Surface condition matters, though. Vinyl bonds to sound, clean paint. On a wrap this is critical because the film covers everything, but even for lettering the panel underneath needs to be in reasonable shape:
- Good surfaces -- solid, clean factory paint with no rust or peeling clear coat. The vinyl sticks properly and lasts for years.
- Problem surfaces -- rust, deep dents, flaking paint or a failing clear coat. Vinyl won't hold on these, and lettering applied over them will lift at the edges. We'll flag it before we start rather than let it fail on you.
- Need it removable? -- if you swap vehicles often or lease, ask about magnetic signs for cars instead. They peel off in seconds and move to the next vehicle, though they cover a smaller area than fixed lettering.
How do you order?

A quick Adelaide example
A trade contractor running a small fleet of white utes came to Gigantic Signs wanting to look established without the cost of wrapping every vehicle. We set them up with cut-vinyl door lettering -- business name, phone number and a two-colour logo -- plus a matching rear-window panel on each ute. The whole fleet was done for a small fraction of what wrapping even one vehicle would have cost, and because it was cut vinyl on clean factory paint, it still looks sharp after a couple of Adelaide summers. New enquiries started mentioning they'd "seen the utes around", which is exactly the point.
Frequently asked questions
Is vehicle lettering cheaper than a wrap?
Yes, by a wide margin. Lettering uses a fraction of the material and labour of a full wrap, which can take our team one to three days per vehicle. For most business vehicles, lettering delivers the same marketing effect for far less outlay.
How long does vehicle lettering last?
Applied to sound, clean paint, quality automotive vinyl lasts several years through Adelaide conditions. Cut vinyl is very durable, and printed lettering is laminated to hold its colour in the sun. Keeping the vehicle clean and avoiding harsh pressure-washing right at the edges helps it last longer.
Can I remove it later without damaging the paint?
Yes. Lettering can be removed and, on good factory paint, comes away cleanly. If you change vehicles often, magnetic signs are the fully removable alternative. For aftercare on printed graphics, see our guide on how to care for a vehicle wrap -- the same advice applies to printed lettering.
