That is a range, not a promise, because two identical magnets can wear out at very different rates depending on where the vehicle lives and how the magnet is treated. A magnet on a ute parked under cover overnight and lifted off on weekends will outlast one that bakes in a full-sun car park every day for years.

How do you make a car magnet last longer?

A few simple habits add years to a car magnet. The theme is the same one every time: keep the sun off it when you can, and never trap grit or water underneath it.

• Take it off regularly -- lift the magnet every week or two, wipe both the magnet and the panel dry, then refit. This is also the key to protecting your paint.
• Park in the shade -- less direct Adelaide sun means slower fade. A carport overnight does real work over a few years.
• Store it flat -- lay it graphic-up on a flat surface. Never fold or roll a magnet, or it will kink and stop sealing cleanly.

The good news is you almost never need to: as covered above, the magnetic pull outlasts the print, so a magnet that has "stopped working" has usually just faded. If a magnet genuinely will not grip any more, the cause is normally a warped, folded or damaged sheet rather than lost magnetism, and the honest fix is to replace it. A fresh print on new backing costs little and looks sharp again straight away.
